NOVEMBER NEWS: Charles Manson turned 75 this month. CNN has an article and a nice photo. SEPTEMBER NEWS: Roman Polanski has been arrested in Switzerland for possible extradition back to the United States to stand trial. Read here. Susan Atkins has passed away. Read about it here. Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme is moving to Marcy, New York (which is close to Utica). Read about it here. Susan Atkins was denied parole on September 2. She did attend the hearing, in a hospital bed, but slept through most of it. Read it here and here. The second link has a good photo. Previously: According to several news websites, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme will be released from prison on August 16. A couple of people had told me that the federal inmate website has been listing a release date. I hadn't posted anything about it because they previously posted something similar which was not an actual release date. This time it appears to be real. In other news, Ivor Davis is releasing an updated edition of "Five to Die" which was the very first book about Charles Manson. You can order it from his website or from Amazon. Another book release is the new edition of Adam Gorightly's "Shadow Over Santa Susana." I helped some with fact checking and updates. It's a slimmer version but with new material. Check it at Amazon. JUNE NEWS: Update. Susan Atkins has been scheduled for a parole hearing on September 2. Another story is here. Susan Atkins was scheduled for a parole hearing at the end of May but it has been delayed for three months. The reported reason is that some parole board members were not available. James Whitehouse, her husband, says she has had a brain tumor removed, is mostly paralyzed, can hardly speak and can't feed herself. He also states that she does plan to attend her hearing. It was stated over a year ago that she only had weeks or months to live. Debra Tate, Sharon's sister, is speaking out against Atkins' release. Read it here. MAY NEWS: CharlieManson.Com now has a MySpace page. One site is now reporting the Oliver Stone story is just a rumor but apparently "Taming the Beast" is going to be made. Read it here and here. It is being reported that "Helter Skelter" is going to be made into a movie for a third time! Reportedly, Oliver Stone is in talks with Vincent Bugliosi to bring the book to the big screen. Also, Robert is making his archives available to various media projects. Barker update #5: A website is being put together to raise funds and volunteers to restore Barker Ranch. Barker update #4: The LA Times has a story, too. Be sure to click the photo to get a much larger version. Another story is here. Barker update #3. I've been told a group has contacted the National Park Service about Barker Ranch and have expressed an interest in restoring the structure. The Park Service is going to conduct an archaeological and structural review. If saving it is possible, volunteers and donations may be sought. When I know more, I'll post it here. Barker update #2. The San Francisco Chronicle has an article about the Barker Ranch fire. Barker Ranch fire update #1. The National Park Service completed a major renovation to the ranch last month which included a new metal roof, window and door repairs along with clean-up. There is no electricity or propane at Barker (the stove apparently ran off of a long-gone generator). Because the walls and floor are rock and concrete, it sounds like arson. Oddly (?) nearby Myers Ranch burnt several years ago. Barker Ranch burnt sometime between May 1 and 5. The stone walls are still standing. You can see photos here. If you're interested in the Manson case enough to be reading this, then you absolutely must buy a copy of this DVD. Roman Polanski has been attempting to have his rape case dismissed. One request, to have the hearing held outside of Los Angeles, has been denied. He claims the LA Superior Court is biased against him. The next step for the court is to decide whether he has to appear in person. Read about it here. Happy New Year!
