The killers' gravestones were stolen and replaced. Later, the originals were recovered and are now on display at the Kansas State Historical Society. Click here for info.
The Clutters also had two older daughters (Beverly and Eveanna) who were not home at the time of the murders. One was married and living elsewhere while the other was away at school. Both were on the way home for Thanksgiving at the time of the murders. Some genealogy info can be viewed by clicking here.
Herb Clutter had taken out a $40,000 life insurance policy on himself the night before the murders. Although the premium hadn't even been deposited yet, the company paid off on double indemnity for $80,000.
