Phil Kaufman

Phil Kaufman met Charles Manson at Terminal Island.  He became the owner of the Manson recordings which are known as the "Lie" album.  Apparently, he still owns the rights today.  Additionally, he was one of the regulars at the Harold True residence when the Family visited.

According to his book, "Road Mangler Deluxe", he believes the Family was upset with him over the failure of the recordings.  They went looking for him, but couldn't find him.  They then went to the former True house and couldn't find him there.  So, then they just went next door to kill whomever lived there.  This is similar to the theory that the Tate murders were intended to scare the former resident of that house, Terry Melcher.

Phil went on to become one of the ultimate rock/country band road managers.
