Manson Family Member Up For Parole At CMCKSBY-TV A member of the Manson family will be up for parole on Thursday at the California Men's Colony, and his wife and pastor are speaking out on why he should be set free. Bruce Davis has been in prison for 33 years, and 24 of them have been served at CMC. Davis met Charles Manson in 1969, and witnessed two of the nine murders committed by the group of Manson followers. Davis was convicted in 1972 and was initially sentenced to die. However, state law changed the sentence to seven years to life. Thursday will be Davis's 24th parole hearing; his wife Beth, whom he married while in prison, says she hopes the board takes note of his ministry in prison, and his deep faith. "Just to see the truth," says Beth Davis. "The truth of who he is today. And to focus on his involvement in the crimes." The pastor of the New Life Community Church in Pismo Beach has also worked with Davis, and supports his release from prison. "Part of the problem is that people often claim to be born again and claim to be born again to get out of prison," says pastor Ron Salisbury. "When you see somebody who's the real article, it really changes your opinion." The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office continues to oppose parole for any of the Manson family members. Bruce Davis's wife and 10-year old daughter are not allowed to speak at his parole hearing, although they did send letters of support. One member of the Manson family has been paroled. Steve Grogan was set free in 1986, after he told authorities where the body of one of the victims was. |
