Topanga Corral, Topanga, California

The Topanga Corral was located at the horseshoe bend at 2034 North Topanga Canyon Boulevard.  Although famous for the many big name stars that played there, it was also the site that Charles Manson's group, Milky Way, performed.  Just like Spahn Movie Ranch, fire destroyed the club.

Here is what Ed Sanders wrote in "The Family":

While the family was camped on Horseshoe Lane, Bob Beausoleil and Manson formed a six-piece electric rock band called The Milky Way. Manson played guitar and Beausoleil was on guitar and bass clarinet. The Milky Way was short-lived, though it did have one weekend of public performance.

While The Milky Way was rehearsing one day, a man from the Topanga Corral, a country and western night club in Topanga Canyon, came to hear the group and thought they were "tight" so he hired them for a weekend gig.

During the weekend the group was fired. When asked why, Beausoleil said that the group was too far out, that the potheads came to the club but not enough beer drinkers. Adios Milky Way.

Trivia:  The Doors supposedly wrote "Roadhouse Blues" about the Topanga Corral.  Jay Sebring created Jim Morrison's hairstyle.  Also, George Harrison (The Beatles) reportedly visited the Corral.
